Well that got to me! And I live smack dab in the middle of a military area. And my brother in law,active duty,has been to Saudi,Afghanistan and Iraq,says it makes him feel good when someone does something like this.

I had no idea what the proper gesture was until I found this on your blog. Thank you! I'm an ex-military wife/mom (husband has served and retired US Army) and I always thought eye-contact and a gentle nod was it. I know that was acceptable but now I know the proper (and hopefully universal) gesture. I will do this gesture next time I see active military and I see them often as I'm smack dab in the middle of a National Proving Training Grounds.
