This little guy (12 to 18 inches) was on the screen trying to get a lizard. I went out to get a photo and it was gone. A few minutes later the cat was chasing something on the back porch. Sure enough, it was this snake. At first we thought it was a pygmy rattler but after I caught it and took some photos and compared it to the guidebook photos, we are sure it is a baby Black Racer. I took it way out back and let it go.

ughhhh- snakes and creepy crawlers give me the heebie-jeebies. You're way more brave then I am! I wouldn't touch a snake. Ylek! Glad all is okay though! Whew!
So glad you took it away. They just give me the willies.
Great shot! It sounds like your story had a happy ending for all involved. this reminds me of a time where mum had a small snake outside her screen and it was after a frog that was in her patio plant pots.
yukko! is that poisonous? YOure a brave girl!
Glad you had the courage to move the snake from your backyard. :(
We have had snakes here too but they go away by themselves or I call the Fire Department to take them away. The last episode with snakes here were two rattlesnakes mating!
I hate snakes! They give me the creaps. Mybe it's cause I live in a country with the world's deadliest snakes :{
yikes!! Ick!! great shot though (:
Oh my to catch a snake that is terrifying to me. Snakes give me the shivers. That is a beautiful shot. It is a poisonous snake?

Oh wow- great shot, Carla! And how brave of you to move it. I know the black racers are harmless, but they still creep me out-LOL!
Carla, Your little raggedy dolls are so cute. You are something else in the talent department! Wow to your new header photo! I'm purposfully ignoring the s picture. You amaze me Carla! E
pretty snake....having lived in Fl most my life and having horses, I don't dislike snakes. I tend to put them in the 'cool' category....but I stay away from them if I can't identify them.
