It was V-J day, August 14, 1945. World War II was finally over and a sailor grabbed a nurse and kissed her. That photo was famous with many men claiming to be the man in the photo. This is a good article showing the real man.
And here is a photo of the statue in Sarasota. I had my daughter Rhonda stand by the shoe so you could see just how big this statue is. I didn't have a tripod with me so I braced against a tree. It is still out of focus though.

Wow, that really is a big statue: about twenty times bigger than the famous statue of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen.

I have a picture of that somwehere- took it when that statue was first exhibited in Sarasota. I heard it was back to stay but haven't been over to see it since it returned.
I too have mentioned the end of the Pacific War . In Australia we called iot V.P. Day Victory in the Pacivic. And I Love As Time goes By.I downloaded the movie version frm I tunes to my ipod. Now wheen I am in the train smiling to myself you will know why.

wow, thats a HUGE statue, its good you had her stand there otherwise there would really be no way to know how big it really is. I LOVE the frog photo in your header, and the grub in the previous post is SICK!! cool photos though.
